The real story:
I am Sarah Ammerman, born an Eskimo in Anchorage, Alaska but quickly moved to the great state of Colorado where I grew up with my family of 10! Being apart of a large family, our vacations centered around each other. We are a tall lanky volleyball slammin family, each last one of us, and one another's biggest supporters. That meant when one sibling had a big tournament across the country we packed up our 9 passenger suburban and drove the necessary length, the number of miles irrelevant, to be in attendance. That is how I began to travel and see new cities; through volleyball.
As I finished high school and recruited to play at Texas A&M Universtiy, I took the risk of moving out of the state away from the comfort of my close-knit large family. A&M gave me many great experiences in life that I will forever be thankful for. One of them, an international trip as a team to Europe in between my Sophomore and Junior year. We traveled to Italy, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic. This is where I can pin point where my wanderlust began, at the age of 20 in 2008.
After my career at Texas A&M, I wanted to play more volleyball, which is not possible at a professional level in America. Therefore my next option was to expand my bubble even more, further than just a few states away, and hop the pond to Maribor, Slovenia for my first year of professional volleyball.
Fast forward 7 years later and here I am now, still in Maribor, no longer a volleyball player but a tour guide for volleyball players like myself all those years ago. There was a lot of movement in those 7 years, from Slovenia to Germany to the Philippines. Along with racking up travel to over 20 countries.
I believe travel is a necessary tool to human existence. Especially now. We are living in a world stricken by fear and differences and travel helps to melt those boundaries to understanding and unity.
My passport is blue, as an American, my address has a zip code of 2000 for Maribor; but I was born with wings to embrace the world. A world without borders, walls or segregation. And I hope the stories of my travels and adventures inspire others to take similar risks.
