Text the word 'Resist', to the number 50409

First of all, I am thankful. Thankful for my life, thankful for my friends, thankful for my family, and thankful for my health.

But I am tired. I am tired of opening the news in the morning and reading about people who have to wake up without those things; friends, family, health, and life. It is senseless. When are we going to wake up as a nation?

We need to end the cycle of the Columbine's, Virginia Tech's, Sandy Hook's, Orlando's, and now Vegas. If our country chooses to remain stubborn on our gun rights after multiple mass shootings, it is only a matter of time before another city is added to the list.

When are we going to realize that the 2nd Amendment was written during a time when owning a gun meant owning a musket which took 15-20 seconds to fire a single shot? In the latest Vegas shooting, the shooter had over 20 semi automatic weapons in his possession, all attained legally, and had the capability of firing hundreds of rounds per minute.

Did you watch the video footage? 10 minutes. Do you know how long 10 minutes is? I could only make it 20 seconds before my heart was out of my chest on the floor and my stomach right along with it. How can a person watch and listen to that live footage and think, "Yes, 89 people out of 100 Americans should own one of those deadly weapons." It's sick. It is staring us in the face; one man with the power to take away 58 innocent people's lives and injure hundreds more. When is enough, enough?

What do we know about the NRA?

-It is one of the most influential interest groups in the US

-Consists of 5 million members.

-It came into being as a direct result to the assassinations in the 1960's, Martin Luther King Jr Robert Kennedy

-Before, then the NRA was a quiet company mainly devoted to hunting.

How can we help? Because reading the awful news stories and sending our positive thoughts and prayers to the victims and the family is not enough.

TAKE ACTION!

Text the word 'Resist', to the number 50409.

RESISTBOT will find who represents you in Congress and will deliver your message, all under 2 minutes. We need to share our opinions with the people who represent us, if we don't share what we think with them how can we expect them to act?

Our government regulations do not make sense. 30,000 people a year are dying from guns and more than half of our country is standing up for more gun rights instead of what you think would be the latter, to take away the source; the weapons themselves.

After the UK had a mass shooting in 1987, the country instituted strict gun control laws. In 1996, Australia had a mass shooting which then prompted a sweeping gun buy back program which removed half a million fire arms. They haven't had a mass shooting sense.

More guns only increase the potential for more killings. The facts have clearly been stated, the numbers do not lie, history and the world is trying to tell us something.

When will we stop mourning the senseless deaths of our friends, family, colleagues doing every day activities; going to school, enjoying concerts, watching movies, going about their daily lives.

We have to start somewhere, start with talking to who represents you in Congress. We need change.

This issue is clearly not going to solve itself easily. It is going to take an army of new people to stand up and make a change. It is going to start with me and you.

Here is a sample if you need help, copy/paste. Whatever you do, take action!

Dear

For the longest time, I have stood by and done nothing and have watched over and over as innocent people have died. I’ve watched their families grieve and still I have done nothing. I’ve considered how I would feel if it was someone I lost and yet still I have done nothing. I did nothing because I didn’t know where to begin. Would anyone care what I had to say? Is there anyone who would act on behalf of my voice, the voices of all Americans living in fear of another mass shooting and the voices of those who grieve a lost loved one? I am hopeful you are the person who will hear us and help us make a difference.

If I could get exactly what I wanted I would ask that guns be removed from the hands of anyone outside of law enforcement. I realize that is very unlikely and we have to start small. I am writing today to ask that you support legislation that would, at a minimum, support expanded background checks and ban military style weapons.

Please be the person who will stand with all of us who are exhausted, saddened and broken by the gun violence in our country. Be the one who will help us to begin healing our country. Help us bring peace and brightness back to this once great nation that is being darkened daily by gun violence.

Sincerely,
